Tips for Saving Water Indoors
- Take short showers rather than baths
- Wash full loads of clothes
- Use low-flow shower heads
- Don't leave the water running while brushing your teeth.
- Repair dripping faucets
- Use a dishwasher rather than washing dishes by hand
- Check toilets for leaks (can use food coloring)
- When taking a bath fill the tub only 1/3 full
- Do not run water to thaw frozen foods
- Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than running the water for a cool glass of water
- Do not flush things down the toilet unnecessarily such as kleenex
- Run the dishwasher when it is full
- When washing dishes by hand fill one sink with soapy water and the other with water for rinsing
- Do not run the water while peeling vegetables instead rinse before you begin peeling and when you are finished
- Plug the sink instead of letting the water run while shaving
- Use water saving aerators on faucets
- Cook food in as little water as possible
- Consider purchasing energy efficient appliances or a high-efficiency toilet to replace older, less efficient appliances/toilet

- Sweep driveways or sidewalks rather than spraying water to remove dirt and leaves
- Raise lawn mower blades to promote deeper grass roots
- Water lawns during the early morning hours
- Turn off the faucet when finished with a hose or sprinkler
- Check irrigation systems for leaks on a regular basis
- Use slow release fertilizers
- Use washers between spigots and hoses to prevent leaks
- Add mulch to your vegetable and/or flower gardens to retain moisture
- Consider using native or drought tolerant plants, shrubs or trees for landscaping
- Winterize spigots to prevent pipes from leaking or cracking
- Use a timer for irrigating to prevent over watering
- Use a rain barrel to catch rain water for watering plants
